Rock Staircase and Access Road

We have been steadily cobbing the goat barn and as usual, other small projects keep popping up in between. It became clear that we needed better access to the goat barn from the terrace above, so I built a rock staircase. Not quite up to my trail building standards, but this does not need to support the weight of any mules, so it will do for us.

I also took the dreary weather as an opportunity to work on our access road. The access road to the far side of our property—where we are planning on building the house—is shared with several neighbors. Inevitably, that means that no one actually takes care of it. Since my parents are coming for a visit soon with their campervan, I decided to tackle it. Having the tractor with the front loader really helped, and two and a half days later the road was fixed. The fact that it has been neglected for years and it was still not in terrible shape gives me hope for the future. But at the end of the day a dirt road needs maintenance, no matter how well it is fixed.
